One of my favorite books. Years ago, I got it at the library and it took me months to read, I had to renew it a couple of times. It's a lot to read and you have to take it in small doses, but it's incredible. I purchased the book and now have it as my own. I can't help but think that Andy would have had his own blog when blogs were in their infancy and I feel that this book was the precursor of blogging. Andy was always ahead of the curve.It's funny and real and it brings you back to a particular time and place. Loved everything about it, I laughed out loud in so many places and cringed in others. Excellent book for anyone interested in the behind-the-scenes of Andy Warhol's life and the pop world of the 1970s and 80s. Lots of name dropping. Lots of travel. Lots of living! Five stars for the content and design, one star for the new index. The 2010 Penguin edition included an excellent comprehensive index. It was so good that, for example, when Andy wrote about "Laverne," the index included "Penny Marshall" for that page even though he never mentioned her name. This new edition guts it. First I thought that there might be fewer entries for some names because of the new layout in the larger-format hardcover edition (1190 pages Penguin, 842 pages new edition) but no, some names from the first index are just gone--Jessica Lange and Natalie Wood to name two. Without a good index, this book is tough to navigate first time through and almost impossible to find anything later. Why did they do this?
